Up & Around is a site-specific installation for the Children’s Museum of Manhattan’s exhibition Inside Art, curated by David Rios. Inspired by an existing column in the museum, the piece is a series of large cylinders that wrap around the column. The piece encourages viewers to go under the giant cluster of cylinders to peek into tunnels of mirrors, colors and patterns. We used tubular skylight extensions to create the cylinders and capped them at the top with patterns we designed made of colorful translucent vinyl fabric. The tubes’ highly reflective interior surface concentrated the lights in the gallery, emitting a colorful glow from below, creating an all-encompassing pattern inside.
